I just took a look at OOPE so I could make a post about this. Looks like you beat me to it by a few min. Hehe.
MW2 won't be getting dedicated servers for the PC. Yet again, consoles are ****ing up PC FPS. I made the mistake of buying Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, as it has no dedicated PC server support. Now the PC community is hearing rumors of a dedicated server for the PC version of OFPDR which is good news.
I can't believe that IW is so stupid as to do this. My brother and I run a server hosting company, and we've just cancelled all our pre-orders for MW2. That's about three DOZEN copies of the game that we were going to license in order to get our servers up and running on release day.
Oh well, another non-game hits the shelves. I won't be buying it for PC and I sure as hell won't be buying it for a console. You'd think these *******s would learn by now. -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.

What is amusing to me are console player's attitudes and reactions to this change. Typically they keep saying 'it's better on a console' when they've never tried it on a PC. Additionally, they don't seem to see the value in playing on a server where one person doesn't have a massive advantage over all the rest with network lag (because there is no 'host' player), or the value in having a game where it's more than eight players (4v4 at most).
To the console players who don't get it:
PC players have been the backbone of this franchise since it's inception, without PC players, there would be no COD of any sort.
Dedicated servers are *required* for any decent level of PC performance. No dedicated servers, no PC gamers.
Dedicated servers allow PC players to have consistent addresses where they can go to find their friends on popular servers, regardless if the host is there or not.
Dedicated servers allow the development of custom mods and maps that keep the PC community playing the game long after it's original shelf life. I still know people who play BF2 and COD4 because of this.
FPS games are better on PC because of the level of precision and control you have with a mouse and keyboard. Those of you (children) who were brought up on consoles wouldn't know this (lol).
MW2 is just another huge disappointment in a long list of disappointments. Halo series, OFPDR (which might get a dedicated server now) and now MW2. What a waste. I logged into COD4 today to revisit it and when I started playing I realized just how long in the tooth it had become. It looks really old and dated. I've finally arrived at the point where looks matter to me in a game as well as gameplay. COD4 is tired, but it's replacement is worthless.
I hope BF3 has a dedicated server... if it does, it will wipe the floor with MW2 for total overall sales figures, no question. Oh, and 31k+ signatures at $50-$60 a pop? That's over $1.68 million dollars. That's not pocket change. -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.

BC2 looks REALLY good. If it has dedicated server support (nothing indicates it won't) it'll wipe the floor with MW2 in sales. -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.
